克里斯．范．奥尔斯伯格 1949年生于美国密歇根州,自幼喜欢画画，长大后曾在密歇根大学及罗得岛设计学院学习雕塑，并获得了艺术硕士学位。毕业后，他成立了自己的雕刻工作坊，并开始创作绘画作品。他的画曾在惠特尼美术馆和近代美术馆展出。 奥尔斯伯格被称为美国最有才华的绘本大师之一。他善于用文字引导读者，也善于运用细腻的画面和变幻的光影，营造谜一样的超现实氛围。在他的书中，图像与文字相得益彰，共同烘托出亦真亦幻的气氛，带给读者无尽的遐想。他的作品《魔法师的奇幻花园》《勇敢者的游戏》及本书曾三次获得凯迪克大奖。
